There's nothing like a day all to yourself. You putz around the house, make soup, pick up your uke, catch up on...nothing. It's so cozy to be home and alone and free. I'm personally so grateful for every opportunity to feel this. Nothing pressing. ' Day Off' is a framed mixed media acrylic on 8x10 wood panel that hopes to share that vibe.
You know. YOU know. Who among us hasn't felt the sweet relief of the last guests leaving. I mean, not every time, but those times when you just can't stand being cinched up in a bra another minute. Maybe you know this one a little too well. I know I do. Some days you're really feelin' it and other days you have 6 outfits on the floor and 3 more on your bed and you've made up your mind and changed it so many times before going out the door. You know the hostess and that's it. They don't even have a cat to talk to. But you go. Meet nature’s original interior designer: The Bowerbird. In the wild, the male bowerbird is a tireless creator, spending hours scavenging for vibrant trinkets, plastic caps, and feathers. He meticulously arranges these treasures into an immaculate, color-coded stage—all for a single purpose: to charm and win over a female. This piece celebrates that compulsive creative spirit to which I can wholly relate. 12"x24" framed

There is something about this aqua colour palette that stirs the dreamer in me. This art deco swimmer is lucky enough to have the pool to herself this morning. Through every storm and every joy, they somehow remained the only two in any room. There is nothing like twinkling private jokes at each other with just your eyes. This little painting was hanging on the wall during a Mayne Island studio tour when a woman stopped, smiled, and said, "Oh, that's the Brick Dock!" without a moment's hesitation. Until then, I hadn't realized I'd painted such a recognizable Mayne Island landmark. I'd simply been painting the shapes, colours, and feeling of the scene. I just love the midnight hour, after the house is quiet. Don't Wait Up leans into that space of solitude and contentment, and I wanted to capture that in the glow of the lamp and the comfort of the chair. 18x24, oil, framed

I usually start with a composition in mind, but somewhere along the way the painting starts making its own decisions. In this case it was her arm. It wanted to keep going, right off the canvas. Once I get into that painting zone, I stop trying to control it. I don't think about selling or whether anyone will like it. Alone, most of us manage our lives responsibly. On Girls Night, all that goes out the window. The next morning, we either forget, or wish we could. Then we can't wait to do it all over again.
